Giving Permanent Residents the Right to Vote and Why it Matters

Come join our last Couchiching Conversation before the annual conference on the issue of voting for permanent residents in Toronto municipal elections. Toronto City Council recently voted to ask the Province to change the rules and allow permanent residents the right to vote in municipal elections. What will this mean for Canada's largest city? How did the campaign successfully navigate the municipal process? Why are many residents and observers still suspicious of extending the local vote to their own neighbours? Journalist and activist Desmond Cole of the Torontoist and acting project co-ordinator of the I Vote Toronto campaign joins us for an intimate discussion on this very important topic.
