Social Media Has Changed the Game - How 'Regular' People are Driving Real Change
With Jordy Gold
Join us for a conversation on what the digital age means for citizen-based social action and interaction and the intersections between social media and social change.
Jordy Gold, Campaigns Director at Change.org in Canada, will share his insider knowledge on how online platforms for change are influencing decision-makers, with a particular focus on Change.org - its creation, mission, values, and reach.
How have these platforms helped grassroots campaigns succeed? And what are the evolving roles of the media, government and business; all of which are intricately tied to the powerful new function that can be played by the average citizen in today’s hyper-connected world.
In doing so, we’ll explore how web-based tools and online community-building are upending traditional approaches and accepted truths about community organizing, social mobilization, advocacy and campaigning, and see how they are making efforts at social change more accessible, more efficient, more democratic, and ultimately far more effective than ever before.
